Krempita

    Ingredients for the Cream:

    • 1/2 liter milk
    • 10 tablespoons sugar
    • 6 tablespoons cornstarch
    • 3 egg yolks
    • 1 packet vanilla sugar
    • 250 g butter
    • 200 ml whipped cream

    Ingredients for the Dough:

    • 500 g puff pastry
    • 200 g butter

    Instructions:

    1. For the Cream:
      • Heat the milk, sugar, and vanilla sugar in a pot over medium heat, stirring constantly until it comes to a boil.
      • Meanwhile, mix the cornstarch, egg yolks, and a bit of milk in a separate bowl until well combined.
      • Once the milk is boiling, reduce the heat and slowly stir in the cornstarch and egg yolk mixture. Continue stirring until the cream thickens. Remove from heat and let it cool.
      • In another bowl, beat the butter until fluffy and then add it to the cooled cream. Stir well until the butter and cream are well combined.
      • Whip the cream until stiff and gently fold it into the cream mixture. Stir until all ingredients are well mixed.
    2. For the Dough:
      • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
      • Lay the first layer of puff pastry in a baking dish, brush with butter, and cover with the next layer. Repeat this process until all the puff pastry layers are used.
      • Place the baking dish in the oven and bake for about 20-25 minutes, until the top of the Krempita is golden brown.
      • Remove from the oven and let it cool. Cut into pieces and serve.
